Slavyanka Russian Chorus Russia's Bach

Slavyanka Chorus concludes its second San Francisco Festival of Russian Choral Music with works by four composers from the "Silver Age", in particular the music of Sergei Taneyev, a prolific composer that is widely considered as "Russia's Bach." The program features three West Coast Premieres by Taneyev including the monumental and rarely-heard choral cantata Ioann Damaskin (John Damascus) for chorus and orchestra. Various guests are showcased throughout the performance including award-winning Russian countertenor Andrej Nemzer who will perform as soloist in chamber vocal works for voice and piano by Tchaikovsky, Taneyev and Rachmaninoff.
